Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Dog Show Weekend

Last weekend I headed out of the city to attend the Canadian Kennel Club shows at the beautiful show grounds of the Stormont Dundas and Glengarry All Breed Dog Show in Long Sault, Ontario. My travelling companion was Susan Luyendyk and we sure had a great time together and shared lots of laughs.  Seeing the beautiful dogs that were present and visiting with other Barbet owners and breeders was truly lovely.  It was great catching up with old friends and watching the young promising puppies in the ring along with some of the more seasoned show dogs.  Congratulations to all of the winners and participants at the show in the Barbet booster and over the course of the weekend.

I was so happy to be able to watch Léa presenting Indy, CH Northrock's Jedi at Patronum, in the ring.  The two of them are a beautiful team and it was such a thrill to see this special puppy again.

Equally delightful was getting to see Patronum Alohomora Bella Luna.  This pretty puppy is also a daughter of Northrock's Athos Pascal making her a half sister to Indy.  Both are such sweet puppies and I look forward to watching them mature.

I just love this photo of this super team celebrating their Best Puppy in Limited Breed Show win.  Thank you to judge Pauline Hewitt for the recognition.  Over the weekend Léa and Indy also collected six points towards Indy's Grand Champion title going Select Dog in the all breed shows on three separate occasions. My heartfelt thanks to everyone at Élevage Barbets Patronum.

We are so happy to share the good news that Indiana (Northrock's Jedi at Patronum) is now a new Canadian Kennel Club Champion in only two weekends of showing! Huge congratulations to his family at Élevage Barbets Patronum. Indy is out of CH Nuphar's Soak Up the Sun by CH Northrock's Athos Pascal. What makes this title extra special is that Indy was handled to this title by Léa Harvey who at 9 years of age did an excellent job showing her six month old puppy.

In the Puppy Group, handled by myself, Mr. Blake gave Oscar an “honorary” Group third. Thank you to these wonderful judges who appreciated our young junior puppy and were a pleasure to show to.

Tux x Ellie Puppies - Leave the Nest

The Tux and Ellie puppies have all left for their new homes.  I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with this litter.  The puppies all have such fabulous personalities and I will always enjoy hearing about their new adventures with their people.  I happily look forward to reading the updates and seeing the photos that their new homes share with me.  These special pups are living with great families and without further ado here they are in order of departure...

Ruby was the first to leave for her new home. She will have a great life with her new owners and now goes by the call name Vimy. Her registered name is Northrock's I'll Walk Beside U. It's a song from WWII and is a perfect fit for this sweet pup.

I'll walk beside you through the world today
While dreams and songs and flowers bless your way
I'll look into your eyes and hold your hand
I'll walk beside you through the golden land

I'll walk beside you through the world tonight
Beneath the starry skies ablaze with light
And in your heart loves's tender words I'll hide
I'll walk beside you through the eventide

I'll walk beside you through the passing years
Through days of cloud and sunshine, joy and tears
And when the great call comes, though sunset gleams
I'll walk beside you through the land of dreams.

Onyx gets to join a family that already has a Barbet! He's now called Cooper, Northrock's I Believe In Magic. He's a great puppy with great owners and I'm glad he won't be living too far from me

Jade has also gone to live in a home that already owns a Barbet  This pretty pup is now called Frankie and her registered name is a Frank Sinatra song. Introducing; Northrock's It's Always You.

Some of the puppies didn't travel too far from home which is always nice. Hudson, formerly Flint is now Northrock's I'll Drink To That and also living close by. Here's to a great new life Hudson - Cheers!

Here is Garnet with his new family  He's now Northrock's It's De-Lovely and is called Toby - a name that suits him perfectly.

Jasper joins a family that has lots of love to give. His owners and their two children are delighted with their new addition and I'm ever so happy that he has joined their family. He is now known as Mati after the french artist Matisse and his registered name is Northrock's It Had To Be You.

The future is bright and beautiful for the Tux and Ellie puppies I wish them all the very best in this next chapter that life has in store for them.

Upcoming Litter at Northrock Barbets

UR01 CH Northrock’s Eau de Joy CGN
has been bred to Dutch CH Nuphar’s In Full Swing

We are pleased to announce our upcoming litter at Northrock Barbets.
Pregnancy has been confirmed by ultrasound.
Puppies expected August 2018

At Northrock, we have high hopes that this pairing will produce beautiful Barbets with lovely temperaments and that these special puppies will go on to make wonderful companions.  This is a breeding that has been planned for quite some time. Ellie has been bred by frozen semen to Tux.  It has truly been a team effort that has brought us this far and although we are only halfway through Ellie’s pregnancy we are thinking positively that we will be welcoming puppies later this summer. The pedigree for this breeding can be found here

Bred by Anne Plomp in the Netherlands, Tux is co-owned with her and Marian Vos. We are ever so pleased to have the opportunity to use their handsome male with Ellie. At four years of age this Dutch Champion exemplifies the type that we admire in the breed.  He has excellent bone and nice proportions. A strong muzzle with large teeth and good ear set lend themselves to a pleasing masculine head with correct expression.  He is clean moving and well balanced with a beautiful coat.  His fun and friendly personality wins over admirers wherever he goes. Tux lives on a farm with his half-brother, sheep, horses and chickens.  Tux’s has A hips and normal eye exams.  He has been DNA tested with MyDogDNA and Embark.  A carrier for von Willebrand Type 1, he is clear for dilution and prcd-PRA.

Ellie is co-owned with myself and Lise Pomeroy. She is a sweet natured three and a half year old Barbet. She loves to swim, even in the coldest water!  A Saint John Ambulance therapy dog she also has UKC rally-obedience and CKC conformation and temperament titles to her credit.  This will be Ellie’s second litter. Her first litter is a year and a half old now.  She was an attentive and loving mother and it was a joy to watch her care for her puppies. Several of her pups are titled in conformation and have obtained their Canine Good Neighbour temperament titles.  They are all doing well as much loved members of their families.  You can read more about Ellie and link to information on her health clearances (Hips, Elbows, Eyes, Cardiac, Thyroid, prcd-PRA and dilution) by visiting her page.  Ellie has been tested with Embark and is clear for von Willebrand Type 1.

We anticipate this pairing to produce good looking puppies that are sound in body and mind and a pleasure to live with.  We often have homes waiting long in advance for a Barbet from one of our litters and recommend that people express their interest for a puppy early on.

More information about our breeding program is available on the website and we invite you to like our Facebook page to learn more about our dogs and how we raise our litters here at Northrock.
